The Cottage
A comfortable, well-equipped self-catering cottage converted from traditional farm buildings, with views across the Yorkshire Wolds.
Yorkshire Wolds Cottage is a single-storey conversion of traditional farm buildings on a working arable farm at Holme-on-the-Wolds. It sleeps four guests in two bedrooms — one double, one twin — and offers a fully equipped kitchen, a cosy sitting room, and a private garden with sweeping views across the chalk hills of East Yorkshire.
Character and Setting
The cottage retains the character of its agricultural origins. Red brick walls, exposed timber beams, and a solid, well-proportioned layout reflect the quality of the original farm buildings. The conversion was done with care, preserving these features while creating a space that's warm, comfortable, and practical for modern use.
Set within the farmyard, the cottage looks out across arable fields and rolling Wolds countryside. There's a sense of space and quiet here that's increasingly difficult to find. Traffic noise is essentially non-existent. The sounds you'll hear are birdsong, wind, and the occasional tractor during the working day.
Inside
The front door opens into a small hallway with hooks and storage for coats and boots — essential kit for anyone planning to walk in the Wolds. From here, the sitting room, kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroom are all accessible on one level.
The sitting room is the heart of the cottage. Comfortable seating, a television with DVD player, and a small bookcase of local guides and fiction make it a good spot for evenings and rainy days. The room faces south, catching afternoon and evening light.
The kitchen is equipped for proper cooking, not just reheating. A full-size oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, toaster, and kettle cover the basics. Crockery, cutlery, pans, baking trays, and cooking utensils are all provided. A washing machine handles laundry. A small dining table seats four comfortably.

Bedrooms
The double bedroom has a standard double bed with quality mattress and bed linen. It faces east, catching the morning light. A wardrobe and chest of drawers provide ample storage.
The twin bedroom has two single beds, again with good mattresses and linen. This room works well for children or for two adults who prefer separate beds. A travel cot can be placed in either bedroom for infants.
Bathroom
The bathroom has a bath with an overhead electric shower, a washbasin, and a toilet. Towels and a bathmat are provided. The hot water supply is ample — you won't run out mid-shower, even if all four guests bathe in succession.
The Garden
The private enclosed garden is one of the cottage's best features. A paved patio area with table and chairs sits directly outside the back door, ideal for morning coffee or evening meals when the weather obliges. Beyond the patio, a small lawn area provides space for children to play or dogs to stretch out.
The garden faces south and west, catching the sun from midday until dusk. The views are across open farmland to the rolling Wolds horizon — no buildings, no roads, just fields and sky. On clear evenings, the sunsets can be remarkable.
